Recent news

Hey everyone

so a lot has happened since i last posted.

I got a guitar about 3 weeks ago! I'm staring to learn chords. I'm actually doing a pretty good job at it.

On a sadder note a friend of mine was killed in a house fire along with his younger sister. It is very sad to see such a nice kid have to leave.

Sorry this is such a small post.

David's "SCHIP, a damned exasperating subject"

So my friend posted this rant on his blog; it's pretty awesome! On a side not I just bought a guitar! It is a Hohner countryman 300. I named it Stringer, because the first thing I did with it was break a string. So with out further ado...

SCHIP, a damed exasperating subject

This is a more serious rant about the SCHIP bill, HR 376, and Graeme Frost.

*Note: If you are angered by foul language, you'll be even more angered by this. but i cuss a bit. its a strong subject. I've been told this rant is biased. Oh well, I have an opinion about it (no duh).
and anyone who can tell me what I'm referencing in the title receives 10000 David dollars.*

10 yrs. ago, Congress made a bill called the S-CHIP: State Children’s Health Insurance Program. This gave health insurance to underage citizens with parents who don't receive health care from their jobs, earn 2 much money for real medicaid, but still way below the poverty line. Its not the best, not the highest priority 4 doctors, but if a 12yr.old cracks his head open in a car crash, he has a chance of living w/o his family having to pay thousands of dollars. YAY America helping its youngins not die. This bill was up 4 renewal earlier this year. Congress looked at stats and noticed over 60% of kids below the poverty line still didn't receive health care. They decided to add an extra part called HR 976 which would expand it by 7x as much federal funding. Bush vetoed it. He decided giving health care to children and putting the GOP in a better lite didn't matter. He consistently gives 2 reasons: 1) socialized health care is anti-American and 2) giving these kids health care would take people away from privatized insurance companies. Other conservatives say they don't want their tax dollars to go to poor kids. There's a war going on! Ignore the future leaders of America, lets take over Iraq! OK enough sarcasm. Then there's Graeme Frost. ill get to him later. I'm gonna try dissecting this argument.

its true, part of (dirty) capitalism is the gov doesn't keep people from dying of TB or strep or flu or MRSA or staph or etc., its the individuals responsibility. but THIS IS CHILDREN!!! kids get fevers and r bedridden and can even die b/c of this! now shouldn't the gov care? we have to take care of our future, all of em, mind u. its not their fault they cant pay their medical bills. so y do they get punished? they can receive lower schooling from the gov if they cant afford better b/c they cant provide 4 themselves. they cant get jobs! they cant receive it from anyone but their parents, and if their parents cant, they're stuck. game over. if they get MRSA, who cares, they're poor. the gov needs to intervene evry so often b/c these r innocent children who simply depend on this bill to LIVE! THEY DIE SIMPLY B/C WE'RE 2 STUBBORN! WTF!?!?!?

This paragraph is more brief. these r kids who r impoverished. w/ parents who struggle to put food on the table nightly. so how can they get privatized health care in the 1st place? their jobs, if they even exist, r most likely the kind of jobs that don't provide health care, esp for their kids. SO HOW THE FUCK DOES GIVING THESE UNFORTUNATE KIDS MEDICARE TAKE AWAY FROM PRIVATE CARE!!?!?!?!?

the epitome of the third argument is given in a quote from Michelle Malkin's blog: "One has to wonder that if time and money can be found to remodel a home, send kids to exclusive private schools, purchase commercial property and run your own business... maybe money can be found for other things, maybe Dad should drop his woodworking hobby and get a real job that offers health insurance rather than making people like me (also with 4 kids in a 600sf smaller house and tuition $16,000 less per kid and no commercial property ownership) pay for it in my taxes. there r logical explanations 4 all of them. if your 3yr.old next door neighbor got shot, wouldn't u call 911? wouldn't u want them to be helped? think of them bawling their eyes out. not a pretty pic. now y is that kid mor special than a 12-year-rold in Chimemboscowangelesvilletownimore? and what should the tax dollars go to? killing people in Iraq? tax cuts? now many people "rather dislike" taxes, but health care needs to be a priority 2.

So this leads me to the newest complication of SCHIP: Graeme Frost. that's who malkin is referring 2. i sympathize w/ the kid. I'm very not rich, but i live in a house in a really expensive neighborhood w/ unusually good schools and get health care from my dads work (the government coincidentally). conservatives r jumping down the throat of a scared 12yr.old boy who got in a car accident and received help from the gov. he would've died w/o SCHIP. he just was trying to return the favor. now people like Malkin are saying"i give income tax to cure a little brat who wants my pity doesn't die in a painful fashion! inconceivable!". he goes to park in Baltimore. hes a real person who doesn't want kids to die like he did. now is that so awful.

so in conclusion, what the fuck bush? y do u hate everyone? will u ever stop being paranoid/stupid for 5 seconds and look at the country? and what's the worst that can happen if HR 376 was passed? greedy people exploit it like people already do w/ all government programs? oh well. kids will die. they don't matter. they're not the future. they're not Oprah. they're poor. now isn't that ridiculous?

if i got any of this wrong, let me know. have a good weekend while little kids die.

LET ME JUST SAY THAT I AGREE WITH ALL OF THIS.

Thanks for devoting time to read this.

Model UN

So like I said earlier I attended a Model UN conference a week a go. We spent a lot of time studying the current nuclear crisis and brainstorming new ways to combat it. Paraguay (the country I represented) was anti-proliferation and neutral on nuclear energy because Paraguay is the largest producer of Hydroelectric power in the world. There was a lot of discussion of light water reactors. Light water reactors use plutonium to make power and the leftover waste is unusable for weapons. The only downside is that the leftover waste is just simply waste, and somehow, it has to be disposed of. Which then brings up the question of safe and environmentally friendly disposal methods. In my mind , I don't think that as the human race, we are ready for nuclear technology. Because with it brings many dangers and flaws. There is currently no way of safely and environmentally friendly way of disposing of nuclear waste. We know how to bury it (spreads radioactive materials through the ground), dump it in our oceans (kills a lot of marine life and eliminates the possibility of turning saltwater into fresh water because it might be radioactive), and we know how to launch it into space (and the effect of that is fairly obvious... it could come right back down!!). Also nuclear weapons kills civilians. It is already against the rules of war not to kill civilians in wartime. A nuclear weapons only kills civilians. At Nagasaki and Hiroshima 70,000 people died directly as a result of the blast and between 90,000 to 140,000 people were killed from the long term effects of the blast. To me it seems fairly obvious that this sort of destructive and unsafe technology is not for our parents generation, our generation, our children's generation, and every generation of the future.

My first rant on my new Blog!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey everyone!!

As I have mentioned before on a previous post, I LOVE TO RANT ABOUT STUFF!

Today's subject: The French Language

Rant: So two summers ago I went to Paris, France. Paris its self is an overrated as a city. So to the language itself. All of French is spelled wrong!!! the word mont, is phonetically pronounced mon. WHAT THE HELL. What kind of language writes their language to make it sound nothing like its spelled!!!!!!! ALSO, Why would people ever think that its a romance language? Most of the language sounds like someone vomiting 4 year old cheese and a $2.00 bottle of NASCAR Merlot.

Thank you for putting up with me and more rants will come (some will be from my friends David; a rant on S-chip that I think is really good).

update for A Way With Words and other remarks.

So earlier today I said that A Way With Words was canceled. Well apparently I was wrong. One of A Way With Words' hosts (Grant Barrett) commented and told me that a new season was starting on Nov. 24th. So for all that are interested, A Way With Words is a radio show on KPBS in San Diego. The show is a fun way of tackling the English language, by having people call in with questions, and stumping listeners with challenging questions. I strongly suggest it.

So in recent news in my life, Maryland Senator, Ben Cardin, came to my school today to give a talk with a following Q and A session on torture. Even though the visit from Cardin was a great honor, I felt that it was a bit like preaching to the choir, because my school is very liberal and anti-torture.

Some points about torture and water-boarding I think are interesting:
  • if the US allows torture, doesn't that mean we have to allow other countries to do the same to our soldiers?
  • why isn't the US government solving the problem were it originating... In Iran, Afghanistan, and other Middle Eastern countries. If we took a stance there that was not just plain aggression, but rather acting a mediator, I think that many problems could be solved
  • THE GENEVA CONVENTION-- In the latest Geneva Convention the US swore not to torture POW. Bush's way around this is saying that the prisoners in Guantanamo are illegal enemy combatants and therefore not subject to the rules put in place by the convention.

Speaking about conventions--

I am attending a Model UN convention soon. I am representing Paraguay on DISEC (Disarmament and International Security Committee). DISEC will, at this conference, be focusing on denuclearizing problematic countries such as Iran, and Pakistan.

Have a good night everyone!!

Welcome to my new blog!!

Hey everyone. So basically I'm a really weird kid. I do weird things. I think weird things. I say weirds things. I am very politically vocal. (I'm pro Obama so that answers the question). I'm also a labor Zionist. (I'm Habo Head for all that know). I also am a Podcast junkie. This American Life, Wait Wait Don't Tell Me, Car Talk, A Way With Words (canceled), Discovery Channel Podcasts, Diane Rehm, Driveway Moments, anything NPR basically and you get the picture. I love to rant!!! RANTS TO COME IN FUTURE POSTS.
